St. Louis Zoo

Our surprise two week hiatus is over and what better way to start off the new week than by talking about zoos? Today, I’m going to be talking about the St. Louis Zoo, which I got the opportunity to see just last week. The time is midday, when the sun is blazing and the temperatures are far above hot. Of course that’s not stopping anyone from walking around to see the attractions, even if it means taking a few extra breaks in the air conditioning.

Home to many endangered species, St Louis Zoo has been known to be a leading zoo when it comes to making sure animals are around for years to come. This mission has been even more crucial in recent years with the rise of climate change destroying many creature’s habitats that have given them a home for so long. Unfortunately I did not get to see all the animals that St Louis Zoo had to offer(the place is huge!) but I did get to walk through the Historic Hill, Red Rocks, The Wild, and Lakeside Crossing zones. Over there they have the exhibits for puffins, polar bears, red pandas and so much more. It does it injustice to simply try and describe everything it has to offer.

Along with their amazing animals, I couldn’t help but notice their efforts to be green. They have a campaign called #byetobags where they have had 9,115 visitors since December 2018 make a pledge to make the switch to reusable bags. In addition to getting rid of single use plastics, the zoo has made efforts to install more environmentally friendly heating and lighting systems and reduce water consumption. More companies and businesses should truly look at places like the St. Louis Zoo for guidance to become more Earth friendly.     For those who haven’t visited yet, I would definitely recommend. You can find more information about visiting here. For those who want to support the zoo either by volunteering or making a donation, you can find all of that information here.
